Privacy Policy

📷Your photos are never stored

This is the core design principle of Kaptr. When you capture a photo for a daily riddle, a Quest catch, or a contest round, it's converted to data in memory on your device, sent directly to our scoring service for that one request, and then discarded. It is never saved to a database, a file server, or any other persistent storage, by us or by the third-party services we use for scoring. There is no photo gallery, history, or backup of your captures anywhere in this system.

Two deliberate exceptions, both of which keep the photo on your own device: you can optionally save a Quest catch to your phone's own gallery (never uploaded anywhere), and sharing a result card renders it into a temporary image handed to your device's share sheet. Neither ever reaches our servers.

🗂️Information we collect

Account information, from whichever sign-in method you use (Google or Apple):

Display name, email address, and profile photo URL

Gameplay data, generated as you use the app:

Daily scores, feedback text, and streak counts
Per-day score history (used to show your recent performance)
Quest progress: which collection slots you've stamped (species names only, never photos)
Friend connections (via shareable friend codes) and friend activity you choose to share
Private contests you create or join, including round scores and leaderboard standing

Purchase information, if you subscribe to Kaptr Plus or buy extra contest credits: your subscription status and purchase history, handled through the Apple App Store or Google Play's own billing systems and our subscription-management provider (RevenueCat). We never see or store your payment card details.

Push notification tokens, so we can deliver the daily riddle reminder and friend-activity alerts you'd expect from the app.

To run the core game: show your daily riddle, score your photo, and track your streak
To power social features you opt into: friends, invites, and private contests
To send notifications you can disable at any time in your device settings
To manage Kaptr Plus subscriptions and contest-credit purchases

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information to anyone.

🤝Third-party services

Kaptr is built on:

Google Firebase: authentication, database, backend functions, hosting, and push notifications
Third-party AI vision providers: score your photo against the day's riddle, contest round, or game challenge, and identify what's in your photo for Quest catches (image data is sent for these single requests only and is not retained by Kaptr afterward)
RevenueCat: manages Kaptr Plus subscriptions and contest-credit purchases

Each of these providers processes data under their own privacy policies in addition to this one.

🔒Data security

Your account data is protected by Firebase security rules restricting access to your own records, and all writes to sensitive fields (scores, streaks, purchases) happen only through server-side functions we control, never directly from the app.

🧒Children's privacy

Kaptr is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

✉️Your choices & contact

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account data at any time by contacting us at privacy@kaptr.app. You can also disable push notifications in your device settings at any time.

We may update this policy as the app evolves; the "Effective" date above will always reflect the latest version.
